Getting Around

Haarlem is wonderfully compact and walkable. The Central Station is a pleasant 15–20 minute walk away, and cycling is one of the best ways to explore.

From dramatic dune landscapes to glittering beach clubs — one of the great joys of staying in Haarlem is the nature right on your doorstep.

Zuid-Kennemerland National Park — 20 min by bike

Stunning dunes, forest trails, and coastal scenery just outside the city. Each entrance has its own character:

Bleek en Berg

Quiet, peaceful woodland walks. Great for a calm morning stroll.

Koevlak

Forest, open dunes, wide-open space — ideal for a longer walk.

Parnassia

Dramatic coastal dunes right near the beach. Stunning views.

Zandvoort Duinen

Scenic coastal walk leading straight to the beach.

Waterleidingduinen — Crystal-clear water channels winding through the dunes. Excellent for spotting deer!

Het Wed — Dune Lake

  • Sheltered natural lake in the dunes
  • Fenced swimming area — perfect for families
  • Kids can play in sand, climb small dunes
  • One of the best kept local secrets!

Oosterplas — Natural Swim

  • Via Duin en Bleek — a short walk
  • Bring food and drinks (no facilities)
  • Park at: Bergweg Bloemendaal (HBS)
  • A true local gem — serene and beautiful
Canoeing & SUP — Available close to the house and at Spaarnwoude Recreation Area. Great for all ages!
Beach Life — Zandvoort & Bloemendaal aan Zee

Easy by bike (≈ 30 min), train, or bus. Beach pavilions are indoor & outdoor — season runs April to early October. ★ = personal favourite
